What is the Ontario PNP, and how does it work?

The Ontario PNP, commonly known as the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program, is a provincial nominee program (OINP). It is a provincial economic immigration program that permits the province to hire foreign nationals.

  • The decision is completely based on economic and labor market requirements.
  • The final decision is made by IRCC
  • This immigration scheme states that immigrants are allowed to get permanent status.

The Two-Step Nomination Process for the Ontario PNP

There are four major immigration categories in Ontario. Employer eligibility, business, and international student categories are all applied for through their respective streams. Ontario also takes advantage of Canada’s Express Entry system to make the application process go faster.

Eligibility of Employers

  • Express Entry 
  • Business Category
  • International Student Category

Employer Eligibility Requirements

Employers in the GTA must comply with the following requirements:

  • Have been in operation for at least three years;
  • Have a gross income of at least $1,000,000 in the previous fiscal year;
  • Have at least five full-time permanent staff; and
  • Have a business in the province of Ontario.

Employers outside of the GTA must comply with the following requirements:

  • Have been in operation for a minimum of three years;
  • Have gross revenues of at least $500,000 in the previous fiscal year;
  • Have at least three full-time permanent staff; and
  • Have a business in the province of Ontario.

PNP Streams Requirements

The applicant for the Foreign Worker stream must have the following qualifications:

  • A full-time work offer in a skilled occupation (listed NOC A, B, or 0) from an approved ON employer.
  • A minimum of 2 years of work experience in the targeted occupation during the last 5 years.
  • Employer Pre-Screen Approved Position Form received.
  • An offered wage that is comparable to the prevailing wage level for the occupation in Ontario.
  • If the potential nominee lives in Canada, he or she will have legal status.

The following qualifications are required for the Investors stream:

  • Active participation in business management and the creation of at least 5 new jobs for Canadians and permanent residents.
  • Controlling at least 33.334 percent of the company’s shares or investing at least $1 million.
  • There is no way to get your money back after a certain amount of time.

 

Under the International Student category, there are the following options:

  • Streams with Job Offers
  • In the last two years, you have graduated (or will soon graduate) from a publicly financed Canadian college or university;
  • An offer of full-time employment in NOC A, B, or 0;
  • Employer Pre-screen Approved Position Form received;
  • An offered wage that is competitive with Ontario’s current entry-level wage; and
  • Legal standing.
  • Ph.D. Graduates from Around the World
  • Graduates of publicly financed universities in Ontario who have completed a Ph.D. degree.
  • There is no requirement for a job offer.
  • The master’s degree program for international students.
  • For students who have completed or are in the last semester of a Masters’s degree at a university in Ontario that is qualified.

International Student Stream

In the last two years, you have graduated (or will soon graduate) from a publicly financed Canadian college or university;

 

  • A full-time employment in NOC A, B, or 0 is available.
  • Employer Pre-screen Approved Position Form received
  • A wage that is competitive with the average entry-level wage in Ontario.
  • Legal standing.

The International Ph.D. Graduate stream 

  • Graduates of publicly financed universities in Ontario who have completed a Ph.D. degree.
  • There is no requirement for a job offer.
  • The master’s degree program for international students.
  • For students who have completed or are in the last semester of a Masters’s degree at a university in Ontario that is qualified.

Candidates will fill a specific need in the labor market, according to human capital priorities.

 

  • Candidates with strong English-speaking talents who have the capabilities needed to fulfill a market demand are called French-Speaking Skilled Workers.
  • Candidates in the skilled trades have ongoing work in Ontario.
