Beginning January 2, 2021 at noon, Priority Skills Newfoundland and Labrador will accept applications (NST). This is a new immigration option for highly educated, highly skilled newcomers with specialised experience in fields such as technology and ocean sciences, where local training and recruitment have fallen short of need.

Employers have requested greater help to satisfy a growing need for highly educated, highly trained individuals, prompting the creation of this new path for newcomers. Hundreds of enquiries have been received by the Office of Immigration and Multiculturalism since the introduction of Priority Skills on November 18th.

Partner visa (Permanent)- subclass 801

Newcomers who have completed a Masters or Doctorate degree at Memorial University within the last three years, as well as others who are exceptionally qualified and have worked in a specialised, highly skilled, high-demand occupation for at least one year, will be eligible for Priority Skills Newfoundland and Labrador. The list of in-demand jobs will be updated.

In other provinces, pathways comparable to Priority Skills Newfoundland and Labrador account for up to 70% of all accepted immigration petitions.

Alberta - PNP Program

Demonstrate your desire and capacity to stay in Newfoundland and Labrador permanently. 

Have enough finances and/or financial resources for the settlement.

Provide language test results that correspond to the Express Entry profileโ€™s language level.

Skilled Worker Category (Express Entry)

This category is for applicants who meet the following criteria:

Have an Express Entry profile in the federal system.

Have a high skilled work offer for at least two years with the possibility of extension from an approved Newfoundland an d Labrador firm.

Salary and perks must be in accordance with provin cial regulations and current salary rates

On the PNP point evaluation grid, get a minimum of 67 points out of 100.

Have or be eligible to apply for an IRCC Work Permit with at least 4 months remaining at the time of appli cation.

Have a post secondary diploma or degree from Canada, or a foreign qualification with an approved Educ ational Credential Assessment from another country.

Nomination Scheme for Employers (Subclass 186)

Demonstrate your desire and capacity to stay in Newfoundland and Labrador permanently.

Demonstrate that you have sufficient settlement funds and financial resources in Newfoundland and Labrador to successfully establish yourself and any dependents.

Your current (or potential) employer may be able to establish a demand for your skillset.

Individuals who have a guaranteed job offer from a Newfoundland and Labrador business or who are already working in the province on a valid Work Permit fall into this group. To be eligible to apply for this programme, you must meet the following requirements:

Youโ€™ve received a full time emp loyment offer from a company in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Have a work permit from Citizenship and Immigration Canada or be eligible to apply for one.

Have the requisite qualifications, training, skills, and/or accreditation.

Demonstrate appropriate English or French language skills to carry out job responsibilities.

** Applicants to the International Graduate category who graduated from Memorial University or College of the North Atlantic can work in an area unrelated to their studies at the time of application.

Candidates must meet the following requirements to be considered for this position

A post-secondary diploma or degree, or similar work experience;

A job or a job offer that is NOC level 0, A, B, or C;

It must be reasonable to believe that the employment will lead to advancement in your career;

According to the NOC description, they have a recent blend of talent, experience, and/or training in the field they are working in;

The work or job offer must be full-time and for an undetermined amount of time;

Graduate Category for International Students

Alberta - PNP Program

Recent graduates with a Post-Graduate Work Permit and a job or job offer from a Newfoundland and Labrador employer fall into this group. To be eligible for this category, the applicant must: 

Have a PGWP that is still valid for at least 4 months.

Have a full-time work or job offer from an eligible employer in a NOC 0, A, or B occupation on the In-Demand Occupation list that guarantees at least 30 hours per week and is for at least one year with a reasonable expectation of extension.

You must be between the ages of 21 and 59.

Intend to make Newfoundland and Labrador my permanent home.

Have enough money prepared aside for the settlement.

To accomplish the job requirements, you must be able to communicate in English or French. For NOC C, In-Demand occupations, language testing is necessary.

If the applicant completed their studies outside of Newfoundland & Labrador, it must be directly related to the field of study (out-of-province graduates must work for a minimum of one year in Newfoundland & Labrador before applying), OR it must be directly related to the field of study if the applicant completed their studies in Newfoundland & Labrador.

 Not immediately related to the topic of study, as long as the applicant is a Memorial University or College of the North, Atlantic graduate and meets the following criteria:

A post-secondary degree or diploma is required.

Can be expected to lead to advancement in oneโ€™s job.

Is in a field where the candidate possesses a combination of skills, experience, and/or training within the last five years.

If an applicant has a 10% ownership position in a company where they work, that stake cannot be more than 10%. 

Newfoundland and Labrador Priority Skills

Priority Skills NL is looking for people who have job experience in high-demand occupations in Newfoundland and Labrador, as well as a high level of education and language skills. Candidates must fill out an Expression of Interest form, and those with the highest scores and the most employer interest are asked to apply for the NL PNP.

Expressions of Interest (EOI) are accepted from the following sources:

Candidates having at least one year of experience in one of Newfoundland and Labradorโ€™s in demand occup ations in the last ten years.

Candidates holding a PhD or Masterโ€™s degree in Technology, Health Care, Aquaculture, or Agriculture from Memorial University within the last three years.

Candidates must meet the following requirements

 

Have a level 5 or above in English on the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB). You must have taken the IELTS or CELPIP test within the last year.

You must be at least 21 years old to participate.

Intend to stay in Newfoundland and Labrador for the rest of their life.

Category for International Graduate Entrepreneurs

Graduates of Memorial University or the College of the North Atlantic who have already launched or purchased a local firm are eli gible for the International Graduate Entrepreneur category.

Requirements: 

You must be at least 21 years old.

Provide a business strategy with supporting financial records that have been verified.

H Have earned a degree or dipl oma after completing at least two academic years of full-time , in-person study at Memorial University or College of the North Atlantic, with the degree or diploma earned within two years of the Expression of Interest being submitted.

A valid Post-Graduate Work Permit is required.

Category for International Entrepreneurs

The International Entrepreneur category is for experienced business owners or senior executives who want to live in Newfo undland and Labrador permanently.

Requirements: 

You must be between the ages of 21 and 59.

Provide a business strategy with supporting financial records that have been verified.

A Canadian high school diploma or equivalent is required.

Have unencumbered net business and personal assets of at least $600,000 that can be easily tran sferred to Canada.

Be able to invest at least $200,000 in Newfoundland and Labrador to start a firm with a minimum ownership of 33.3 percent, or $1 million in equity.

Demonstrate that the company is a for-profit entity whose primary goal is to make money by sel ling goods and /o r services.

Have at least two years of active management and ownership of a business (at least 25% ownership) in the last five years OR five or more years of senior business management exper ience in the last ten years.
