1. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)

It is a private land grant research university in Cambridge established in 1861 with the motto of “Mind and Hand”. MIT is one of the three universities in the US which are private land grant universities. MIT’s first building was in Boston and moved to Cambridge in 1916. MIT changed its name as Sea Grant college in 1976 to support its programs in oceanography and marine sciences and in 1989 to support its aeronautics and astronautics programs the name of the university changed to space-grant college. MIT has its own police force and a Collier Medal, which is an honour of the police officer shot in the campus in 2013.

2. Harvard University

It is the oldest institution in the US which was established in 1636 and it is a private Ivy league research university. The motto of the university is “truth” and it is written on the logo as well. It is the most prestigious university in the world by its ranking and influence. Harvard’s library is the fourth largest library in the US. 188 billionaires, 8 US presidents are harvard’s alumni. First known printing press was acquired by the university in 1638. In the seal in the diploma certificate issued from Harvard mentioned as “for Christ and church”.

3. Stanford University

It is a private research university founded by Leland in 1885 which is officially called as Leland Stanford Junior University. This university campus is the largest in the nation and in the same campus the university has seven schools. The motto of the university is “The wind of freedom blows”. Stanford is one of the most successful universities in the world which is famous for its entrepreneurship and giving funds for start-ups. Students from Stanford have won 296 Olympic medals. The current UK prime minister is a graduate from this university.

4. University of California Berkeley (UCB)

This university is one of the top universities in the world, it is a public land grant research university in Berkeley, California founded in 1868. This university got its name after Anglo Irish philosopher Gerorge Berkeley. University of California is the founding campus of the university and it is considered as the state’s first land grant university. The motto of the university is “Let there be light”. 6. University of Pennsylvania (Penn)

This university is a private Ivy league research university  Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, U.S established in 1740. This university is the fourth oldest institution in the US and the founder of the university is Benjamin Franklin. This university is considered as the sixth wealthiest private institution in the world.
